Company

Established 30 years ago, this company is one of the UK's leading privately owned manufacturers of single use and sterile plastic based healthcare products. ISPO

Dennis, a Dutch student, found his own work placement in Liverpool before he came to Derby, but this placement did not work out and he had to look urgently for another placement. "In spite of all my efforts I was not able to find a placement in the Liverpool area. I contacted ISPO, which was a great help in finding me a new placement in Derby that suited my needs. I was very surprised that everything was arranged for me here, from finding me a place to live up to picking me up from the airport." - Dennis van Mil, International Marketing Management, Utrecht Business School, Netherlands.

Placement

Dennis's skills were matched with a requirement in the company's export department. This department takes care of all the international sales of their products. International orders are processed, shipped and administrated and the department takes care of all export procedures. Also the Department remains in close contact with the foreign distributors, searches for new markets and arranges all the certificates and documents that are necessary for exporting medical disposables.

Dennis was involved in all of these tasks and has been responsible for searching for new distributors in Germany and Australia, helping with designing brochures, making sample cases and supporting the Export Manager. His major project at the company was researching ways to improve the success (especially on the foreign market) of a product that the company produces, that does not sell in great quantities.

Conclusions

Dennis has learned how to deal with foreign markets and what is involved in exporting products to these markets. Also he has learned how to successfully market the products in these countries. He has been to several meetings regarding a major project to learn more about the medical disposable industry and how the health scheme works in different countries.

"All in all I am is very busy here and I am enjoying it very much."
Dennis van Mil.
