The host company is a young, fast-growing research and online media company which develops innovative fibre-reinforced polymer composites from biomaterials like PLA, starch, hemp and flax associated moulding processes. They create and use innovative technologies and products to advance the composites industry and advise companies on trends in the future for the industry. The company is located in Chesterfield on the edge of the Peak District, one of the most beautiful areas of the UK and is highly active in national and international networks in the composites industry.
The host company is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic student working towards a degree in Mechanical, Materials or manufacturing engineering, who will develop composite materials from natural fibres and natural resin systems. In addition you will develop innovative cost-effective processing techniques and deliver practical technical tasks within research projects.
The role will involve a range of tasks including literature searches, experimental trials, processing, mechanical testing, preparing task reports and drawing conclusions. The successful applicant will also have ongoing contact with suppliers, partners and customers and will conduct on-site visits and give presentations at project meetings.
Detailed knowledge of naturally-derived polymers, fibres and composite materials would be an advantage, although not essential as the company is committed to nurturing and training their employees.
It is expected that the role may require UK or European travel, so a full driving licence would be an advantage.
