The Host Company

The host company is a narrow fabric manufacturing company that was set up in 1795. The company runs two factories in the UK, with their head office being located in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, close to the Peak District National Park. They are a leading manufacturer of woven tape, webbing and cord made from a wide range of natural and synthetic fibres, including cotton, nylon, polyester, polypropylene and flame resistant materials. They supply material to many of the leading brands in sport, leisurewear and high quality outdoor wear.

The Placement

The host company is looking for a student to assist them in their export department, covering the French speaking areas of their market. The role would include:

  • Customer service and advice.
  • Supplying quotations.
  • Sending out samples to customers and potential customers.
  • Logistics.
  • General business administration.
  • Assisting with sales.
  • Telephone work with potential and existing customers. This will include direct customer contact and some cold calling under supervision.

To Summarise, this placement is typically 50% administration and 50% business development. This placement offers "real life" sales experience and students will be encouraged to develop their own business areas.
