Company Background

Opus Telecom is a small business telecom organisation, working with leading edge technology, based in Derby. Since they commenced operations in 2002 they have become one of the UK's leading providers of turn-key telecommunication solutions to the mid-market and corporate sectors. Working with their business partners (T-Mobile, BT, Siemens, BlackBerry, NEC and others), their unique and comprehensive range of products and services makes them highly successful and has got them to where they are today.

Placement History

Opus Telecom has recently been hosting their first ISPO student, Renáta Garamvölgyi. Renáta is from Hungary and currently finishing her double degree program. Her studies are International Economics (Budapest Business School, Budapest, Hungary) and International Business and Management (Avans Hogeschool Breda, Netherlands).

Renáta is responsible for the marketing the company which involves a variety of mediums such as email, SMS and social media networking. Renáta is also responsible for database management of a database which holds information of over 11.000 companies. In addition to this, Renáta's duties include account management, maintaining relationships with clients. Furthermore, she attends trade shows and sales visits in which she utilises her specialised skills, enabling her to help raise the companies' profile.

During Renáta's placement she was able to combine her academic dissertation with her work at the company.

Her specialised subject is: "What marketing factors can be of influence in persuading schools to switch from big to small and medium sized telecommunication system providers in England?"

Managing director of Opus Telecom, George Nicholson, has found this very useful and sees the potential it might have for the development of new business opportunities.

The work that has been undertaken by Renáta has made it possible for Opus Telecom to have a different outlook on marketing the company, taking new approaches and offering a renewed outlook on company operations.   

George has found Renáta very professional, inquisitive and has been impressed by the standard of her work. He said: "She is very committed and I feel more and more comfortable giving her more responsible tasks."

Renáta also gained new skills and developed some of her previous strengths during the placement, for example, she has gained more self confidence, has learned how to deal with customers more effectively, has developed her marketing skills and improved her already excellent English language skills.
